Brian is Professor of Geography in Higher Education and Director of the National Subject Centre for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, based at the University of Plymouth. He has worked in higher education for over twenty years and has extensive teaching experience in Geography, Environmental Science and related disciplines. His main teaching interests are in the areas of key (transferable) skills, work-based learning and Human Geography. Brian has published extensively in these areas and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Geography in Higher Education.
Judith is Adviser for Special Learning Needs at the University of Plymouth and Manager of the South West Regional Access Centre at the University, which provides assessment, guidance and support for students with disabilities in the South West Region. She has twenty-five years' experience teaching and advising in schools, clinical settings and higher education. Judith is currently developing and delivering Post Graduate courses and awareness programmes for professionals supporting/teaching or employing disabled people. She has been Project Manager on four HEFCE single and consortium projects related to Special Initiative funding and Widening Participation; Manager of DfEE project Guidance for Disabled graduates; director of Leonardo Da Vinci programme project with twelve UK and European partners, focusing on disabled student study, placements and employment mobility across four European states; member of the National Working Party on Dyslexia in HE; and Skill National Working Party for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education; executive member of the National Federation of Access Centres; and contributor of chapters; articles and editorials for pertinent journals, books and collective conference papers.
